Gratitude List 6/2/24
Yesterday was a Watkins day, which involved stillness, sitting and giving readings in the window. Today I walked with Flo to the Aldwych and caught the number 1 bus to Hampstead Heath. For work that I love and for movement. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
Flo has an intense love of buses. She likes to go upstairs and look out of the window. She embodies delight. For unbridled enthusiasm and unexplained happiness: Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
My association with Southend Green stretches back so far, that when I revisit I feel that I am walking in a hologram. This is where 33 years ago I ate curry and walked trying to hasten my son Josh's entry into the world. This is where I walked across the Heath with my younger son Zach. For the memories which I hold, etched within me: sacred gratitude: Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
Today the Green Parakeets are out in force. They swoop overhead. Here (unlike St James Park) they do not come down to the hand for food. For freedom, wildness. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
There is poignancy on The Heath. A solitary heron, memorial benches everywhere. Promises made to be remembered. The dogs are exuberant. I do not curb Flo. For Life: Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
I clamber up to Parliament Hill. Flo sits with me patiently. The blackberry bushes are bereft of fruit. Hawthorn leaves are arriving. It is windy. I am amused by Flo's ears (see video). For ears that are moved by the wind. Ah, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
Alone I sometimes catch snippets of other people's conversation. I like to observe the intensity with which people walk, laugh and talk. For connection: Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
The walk took us to Parliament Hill Fields and the bottom of Swains Lane. Then we caught the no. 214 to Camden and picked up the no. 24 back to Charing Cross Road. Like Flo I adore the no.24 bus. It is iconic in my eyes. For buses that arrive and for constancy: Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
Then I had soup to make and work to complete. For small tasks that are joyful: Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
For a wonderful day that felt woven and rich. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
