Gratitude List 18/5/23
Yesterday, after all my piousness about avoiding visibility, I received (at late notice) a days work assignment as a film extra. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
This was an interesting experiment in surrender. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
The starting point was 7.15 am @ a lock up on an industrial estate just off The Old Kent Road. Of course I was late. For being lost and then becoming found: Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
I was (almost) seduced by the process. This was because, even as 'an extra', I was treated nicely and could have been made to feel important. I had to send in pictures of and wear my own clothes. The seduction came in the fact that I loved having my hair done and being made up, by the hair stylist and make up artist. For a small whiff of glamour, Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
The filming took place in Clapham. I was taken there by mini bus. For being held: Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
The task was to drink wine and chat at a Chanukah Party. A posh house was hired for the event. Of course I walked in and started bossing every one about "That Chanukah Lamp is the Wrong way around, outrageous!- You MUST turn it about!" "Call this a Chanukah Party? You should have asked me to bring along the Latkes". For containment and for restraint: Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
Just for a moment I understood the lure of stardom. How wonderful to be adored, for just being there. For a reality check: Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
In the garden, high overhead I saw three swallows. When I was a child I remember the sky being thick with swallows. For swallows and for their recovery to being numerous once again: Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
I learnt a lot about gratitude on this day. Especially the degree of complexity and effort that it takes to recreate simple scenes from real life, which I have (we have) everyday, effortlessly. For life: Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
For art. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You.
